Program Assessment Results
The Grossmont District's Program Assessment is an annual writing test given to all students in Grossmont District located 20 miles east of downtown San Diego. Essays are scored holistically on a 6-point scale. All students are graded by the same common scoring guide. West Hills High School, where the Jane Schaffer Writing Program originated, has consistently ranked at the top of the district on the writing test. In addition to being #1 in the district, West Hills High School earned the greatest number of 6s (the top score) in June 2000 -- 19 of the 68 6s given district wide were West Hills students. Scores for Summer 2000 are as follows:

TAAS writing scores
Texas has a required writing test for graduation graded on a 4-point scale. In February 2000, Ray High School--with 79% free and reduced lunch students--administered the TAAS writing test (Texas Assessment of Academic Skills) to 422 sophomores. Here are the results of that administration:
